Salon Facilities

The salon and galley combine to form an open, entertainment area. The seating has storage compartments incorporated below and behind the cushions and there is a raised cabinet to starboard for drinking glass storage. The companion way steps to the cabins are off the salon to port and starboard.

Be careful when going down these steps, particularly if you have wet feet or when the boat is underway. Use the hand holds that are positioned through out the boat.

The navigation/ chart table is sited in the salon area. The main electrical breaker panel is located above the chart table, all the breakers are marked. There is a 12 volt electrical outlet and a 110 volt outlet positioned either side of the chart table. The switches for the salon and galley lights are also mounted here.

The Compact Disc player is mounted above the navigation area. This panel also provides access to the back of the instrument panel. It should not be necessary to open this panel. Below the chart table is another access panel for the electrical circuits, again it should not be necessary to open this area.

The sliding, glass door  between the cockpit and salon/galley will normally be left open. Always secure the door with the shoot bolt located on the top right hand side to prevent injury or damage caused by the door sliding unexpectedly.

The main house battery switch is located below the chart table on the starboard side. In the case of the VY 380 the switch is just above the chart table behind the acrylic sliding door. This should normally be left in the position marked BOTH

The salon and galley overhead lighting is controlled from a switch panel just to stb. of the salon/cockpit doorway. The switches operate clusters of lights and each section has a dimmer positioned below. The lights can be angled slightly and each one can be individually turned on and off by rotating the outer ring.

The overhead ventilation hatches in the salon/galley area should not be left open when sailing. Apart from the problem of an unexpected wave coming on board, there is the more serious danger of a jib sheet becoming entangled around the open hatch and wrenching it from its hinges.

To secure the hatch fully the handles must be dogged down to the lower side of the catch plate. The middle position leaves a small ventilation gap that will allow water in
